In the Financial Services Industry

Milestone Financial Group's name has changed many times throughout our 60 years of history, but our mission and values have always stayed the same. Our job is to ask the right questions, so we can help you pursue your personal and business financial goals, from planning to execution.

I’ve never been a stranger to hard work and doing the right thing. Growing up on our family farm working alongside my dad and two brothers taught me the value of teamwork and putting your mind to something and getting it done! Coming from a rural background also taught me the value of service. Serving not only your community and neighbors, but also those who entrusted you with their resources. This philosophy helps guide our firm today.

After returning to our family farming operation following college, I then began my financial services career in community banking. I have now worked in the financial services industry for over 25 years and have been part of our current financial services, planning, and investment firm since 2004. Denise and I have also had the privilege to own the firm since 2013.

Having published several articles over the years in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, The Hill, Successful Farming, and Investopedia, I decided to try my hand at something new. In 2015, I published my 1st book titled “Retirement Built to Last: Planning for When the Paychecks Stop.” The book was written to help retirees, business owners and professionals to better understand the importance of having a retirement income plan designed around what is important to them.

Denise and I have two grown children, Andrea and Jackson, our daughter-in-law Nicole, and our 1st grandchild Beverly! We enjoy spending time with family and friends and spoiling our granddaughter! We also enjoy traveling, bike riding to craft breweries, and riding trails on our UTV and ATVs! I also enjoy helping out on our families Angus ranch, watching college football, and cheering for the CHIEFS!

Many people don’t realize that I grew up not far from Red Oak, Iowa, on a farm near Hastings.   Agriculture is in my blood and very dear to my heart. Living through the 80’s farm crisis really taught me the importance of having a plan and sticking to it.

I love working at Milestone Financial Group with my husband, Dan.  Some people may find that ridiculous and can’t believe that we work together every day! The key to our team is we all have different gifts, and we all bring something together that makes us unique. I love helping people with insurance and visiting about the things that you can have in place to make your life and the lives of your loved ones easier and better.

In my spare time (I am trying to work harder on a work/life balance!), I enjoy going to see our Granddaughter, going to Bible Study on Monday nights, riding bicycles, riding UTV’s and ATV’s, playing with my Cricut, planting flowers and going to breweries.   Dan and I love to go to all types of sporting events: baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. Our favorite teams to cheer on are (of course) my alma mater Northwest Missouri State, The Kansas City Royals, Omaha Storm Chasers, Iowa Wild, and the Kansas City Chiefs!

The combination of being raised in a household by parents who work in the medical field and an early interest in finance and business made me want to pursue a career that could help people. At some point in our lives, we all have financial problems, questions or concerns that are driven by different events in our lives. I enjoy helping people in times of need and turning challenges into future goals and, hopefully, accomplishments. That foundation led me to the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) to get my degree in finance and pursue becoming a financial advisor.

Since then, I have been working for MFG, pursuing my dream and helping others build theirs through financial planning and investment advice. I am a believer in the concept of being a lifelong learner, so I also enjoy keeping up with the latest financial news and trends to keep my interests and skills evolving.

My wife, Hannah, and I have 3 girls, 2 cats, and 1 dog. We stay busy attending our girls’ sporting events and dance competitions. As a family, we enjoy family game night, traveling, watching and playing sports, and being outdoors as much as we can! When I am not in the office or chasing kids, I enjoy spending my time fishing, kayaking, or hiking.

I grew up in Villisca, Iowa, where I currently live with my wife. Immediately following High School, I enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard as a Light-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, where I am now serving as a Staff Sergeant 10 years later. I used my education benefits to attend college and finished my educational career (for now) at the University of Nebraska-Omaha with an MBA degree in Investment Science and Portfolio Management.

My wife, Shelby, and I are expecting our first child in April of 2023! As a soon-to-be Father, I am reminded of one of the books that stuck with me most as a kid - “101 Marvelous Money Making Ideas for Kids.” Throughout my life, I have seen and experienced how important financial decisions can be in living comfortably and working towards what you want in life. Because of this and being service-oriented, I enjoy using my knowledge and position to help others.

Working at Milestone Financial Group has really given me the ability to spread knowledge, assist those who need help, or simply help people have the time to do the things they want to do! In my spare time, I tend to focus on home and car projects and other “hands-on” activities.

My motto for life is carpe diem, seize the day! This motto is how I ended up here in Red Oak, Iowa proudly working for Milestone Financial Group. I grew up in Wray, CO on my family’s ranch raising Lim-Flex cattle and learning the core values I carry with me today of hard work, integrity, and stewardship.

After high school, I was ready for a cross-country adventure and attended college at Northern Arizona University, in Flagstaff, AZ. While earning degrees in Finance and Business Administration, I fell in love with hobbies of hiking, paddle boarding, long road trips, and sappy romance novels.

After graduation and several trips out to the great Midwest, I began working here at Milestone Financial Group in May of 2021. Here I can not only carpe diem my day but help others seize their finances & life goals, which is one of the reasons I enjoy working in this business so much!

After I graduated college, landed a good job, and started making money instead of spending it, I became interested in investing for my future retirement.  It sure seemed far away at the time, but I took some evening classes in my community and met with a financial advisor. It was very interesting and exciting that I could make money with money!

Since then, I’ve had a few different jobs and even career changes, got married and raised two children.   But one thing that didn’t change was investing for my future retirement and later for my children’s future. When I decided to come work at Milestone Financial Group, it was because I had an interest in working with a team that helps others with their goals of planning, saving, and growing their investments too.

Outside of work, I keep busy helping with chores on our family farm in Nodaway, where we have a commercial cow-calf operation and raise Suffolk influenced sheep.  I love to walk through the pastures with our dogs and wind down the day reading a good mystery.
